Uses
Transfer carts are frequently used to transport pallets, both empty and loaded. They are used, for example, to transport empty pallets from a pallet dispenser to various palletizing lines. They are also used to remove loaded pallets from different palletizing lines, transporting them to the stretch wrap or shrink film application station, prior to storage or dispatch.
Transfer carts consist of one or more conveyor sections mounted on a wheeled chassis that moves on rails. Based on this simple definition we can classify them as single station transfer carts (suitable for the transport and supply of one pallet for each loading/unloading), double station transfer carts (designed for the transport of two pallets simultaneously for each loading/unloading), single station transfer carts with rotating table (allows the loading to be rotated 90 gr. with respect to the unloading or vice versa).
In all cases, the conveyor sections can be of the motorized roller or chain type, and in all cases the sections operate in both directions of travel to enable pallet loading and unloading.
However, it is also feasible to manufacture transfer carts with other types of conveyors, e.g. belt conveyors, plastic chain conveyors, etc. These are generally not used for the movement of pallets, but for boxes, crates, bins, etc.
The version of the transfer carriage used for the transport of loaded pallets (single or double station) can be equipped with pneumatically operated side supports to keep the load stable and secure during the transfer process.
Construction
The transfer carts are built on a solid chassis made of folded sheet metal (for the single version) or structural steel (for the double version). On the chassis is mounted the transfer system and the transport section(s) required according to the application. In its front and rear parts, the safety systems against collisions are placed, which immediately stop the trolley from moving forward or backward in the presence of any obstacle encountered in its path.
Motorization
One motorization is used for the forward and reverse movement, one for the conveyor movement, and possibly a third one for the turning, in the case of the version with rotary table.
The motorizations are equipped with frequency variators to control the speed and acceleration and deceleration ramps of each motorization. The power supply, and eventually the compressed air supply, is provided by wiring through a flexible tray arranged along the entire length of the device.
